Social anxiety & insecurity make you struggle with social situations & become nervous or insecure when you meet or talk to people. Also if you think it is very important what other people think of you and are preoccupied with it a lot & worry about it, you have a form of social anxiety. You are then unsure whether you are going to come across well & afraid that you will do or say something strange & be disapproved or rejected.

If you are socially anxious, you will tend to avoid other people, especially if you are not feeling so well or if you might not come off as well. You can start making up all kinds of excuses, that you have a headache, or that you don't like dinners, birthdays, parties & those people etc. Or you can start preparing endlessly, spending capitals on clothes or drinking your courage in etc. But in the end, of course, that doesn't really help.

You better recognize that you are insecure & suffer from social anxiety - and start doing something about it. Because without social self-confidence, it's very difficult to function well & very difficult to have a little fun life. After all, you really do run into people everywhere.... and so you'd better learn to deal well with your social insecurities & build up your self-confidence. Otherwise, you will unwittingly develop a (little) fear of people & social anxiety will continue to endlessly hinder you & limit your life - when it really isn't necessary.

Social anxiety means that you are (unconsciously) afraid of rejection & thus of comments & remarks that other people make - or might make. You are (somewhat) afraid of disapproval or criticism & you may start to fill this in ahead of time. You may be afraid of arguments or of getting alone & doing everything you can to prevent & avoid that. Or you may be afraid of coming off or being embarrassed & think of all possible disastrous scenarios. Which can make you feel & behave very socially insecure & anxious.

Social anxiety can greatly affect your behavior, which in return reduces your self-confidence again. It can create a negative spiral, in which you fill in negative thoughts about what other people think of you and you become more afraid of rejection. It is therefore important to learn to deal with social anxiety & insecurity well, because otherwise you will start avoiding people & situations, making your world smaller, more boring & lonely.
